Are Mobiles becoming Part of Fashion

Relationship of Fashion and Mobiles:

This article explains whether and how fashion values such as beauty, desired movement through symbolic communication, and high variations are increasingly reflected in mobile phone design..
These possible points are unraveled through interviews with eight representatives from both industries. 


Their comments allow us to debate whether a fashionalization process is taking place and, if so, how it is being carried out. The findings indicate that fashion values are visible in mobile phone design and are taken into account in design. Thus, fashion can be seen as emanating from apparel-related institutions that are spread and shared with the mobile industry, as a shared reliance on trend agencies for color selection and joint events. 


This ad hoc and heterogeneous interaction refuses to be modeled as a "system", which has been suggested as a way of explaining institutional work within clothing fashion. Drawing on the institutional theory of Barbara Czarniawska, the article proposes to conceptualize emerging institutional work in terms of "action networks". This concept makes flexible, situated and ad hoc activities visible instead of stable and fixed organizational entities.
